BIOAn artist on the borders of LA and Orange county, Noel Madrid works with various media on the borders of the abstract and representational. His recent paintings and drawings focus on a sense of time and momentum. Figurative works often lapse into textural layers of line and color. Also utilizing traditional printmaking techniques under the alter-ego of The Existential Bird, he brings the same energetic touch to a more meditative medium. Noel lives and works in Long Beach CA and has exhibited work in many venues throughout Long Beach and Orange County including Fplus gallery, Exhibit A, Catalyst gallery and Gallery 104. Currently his work can be seen on display the Maya Hotel, Long Beach. In July 2014 Noel was awarded an NEA "A lot" grant to execute "Thrust, Downtown Long Beach" a painting project designed to activate the former Acres of Books parking lot.
As a member of the Long Beach ArtExchange since 2013, Noel has helped develop Room+Border Studios. The artist run space serves as his workspace as well as a curatorial venue for group shows and workshops. He received a BFA from CSU Long Beach in 2010 and hopes to pursue an MFA in printmaking and push The Existential Bird to the next level. When working Noel can be found at Room+Border Studio, a part of the Long Beach ArtExchange 342 E. 3rd st. Long Beach CA 90802 The studios are open monthly to the public on the second Saturday and third Thursday of every month 6-9pm |
